Alan's practice is based around Local Authority and Regulatory work and encompasses both criminal and civil work. Alan is well known in the Trading Standards Service where he has been delivering support, guidance material and training for over 15 years. In addition to his practice he is adjudicator to the National Estate Agency Team.
Alan has a long history of involvement with local authority work which started in 2001 when employed at the then Office of Fair Trading where he had responsibility until 2010 for the support for co-enforcers across the UK in the new EC derived consumer protection regimes. Most of his work was with Trading Standards Departments but he also provided support to the industry specific regulators. Alan developed this area further with an almost 3 year secondment from his original Chambers to Medway Council, where he undertook the full range of Council prosecution work and some civil work, which was largely based around injunctions and housing work.
Alan has a deep interest in this area and he spent 7 months with one of the leading Health Regulatory bodies mainly engaged on disciplinary actions. He has also successfully defended health professionals.
Alan has undertaken a range of civil work covering injunctions, possession and housing matters and is the author of a privately produced guide to the consumer protection injunction regime under the Enterprise Act 2002.
In addition to the Enterprise Act Alan specialises in the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, the Business protection from Misleading Advertising Regulations 2008, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and a wide range of other legislation which deals with the protection of consumers.
Alan offers training in all of the consumer protection legislation referred to above as well as courtroom skills, evidence management, RIPA and witness statement related matters.
Alan is an Accredited Mediator and offers mediation in civil and commercial matters.
